Taxes and Duty – EU Customers

EU Customers – Taxes, and Duty.

We are well practiced at sending our frames and bikes to the EU. We have daily collections by DHL (our international shipping partner). You can buy from Fairlight with confidence.

All prices shown for EU countries exclude UK VAT. (20%).

EU Shipments – 0% Duty on Bikes. Guaranteed.

At Fairlight we try to make high quality design attainable. Nobody wants to pay 14% duty on their bike. So we’ve created a range of custom builds celebrating UK and EU components. These builds qualify for 0% duty, saving 14%!

How It Works.

Because we assemble each bike in London, we can help you choose components that ensure the bike carries 0% duty. This saves of £350 – £600 on a typical bike.

The options we make available on our EU bicycle configuration pages include mainly UK and EU made components. (all of the bikes still use Shimano or SRAM gear systems).

By configuring the bicycle with EU or UK components, the bike will qualify for 0% duty. This does mean that some components like Chris King headsets, are not available for EU builds.

VAT (chargeable at your own country’s rate) will still be incurred for all purchases.

EU/UK Components Included In The EU 0% Duty Bikes Pricelist:

  • Headsets / Seat Collars – Hope (standard for all builds)
  • Wheels – Hope, DT Swiss, Son Dynamo Wheels
  • Saddle – Fizik
  • Tyres – Continental

NON-EU/UK Components Excluded from the EU 0% Duty Bikes Price List:

  • Headsets / Seat Collars – FSA, Chris King
  • Wheels – Hunt

What if I want a bike with Hunt wheels or a Chris King headset?

We do not allow EU customers to specify these components because the whole bicycle would then fail to qualify for 0% duty. The whole bike would then be charged 14% duty (as well as VAT) when it is shipped into the EU costing you between £250 and £600 extra on your purchase)

Frameset Purchases

Strael, Secan, Faran and Holt framesets will always be charged 4.7% duty when shipped into the EU irrespective of build. So, the full range of headset options including Chris King are given for framesets.

Buying Process

Bicycle Purchases – 0% Duty: Strael 4.0, Secan 3.0, Faran 3.0, Holt 2.0 (excludes Framesets)

This is how it works with Duty and VAT:
  • Once the bike has shipped; DHL (our shipping partner) will send you an Import Invoice for your country’s VAT and Fees. You will need to pay this in order to get your Fairlight delivered.
  • Customs Duty should be Zero as the bike qualifies as EU/UK built under the trading agreement between the UK and EU.** We guarantee you will pay zero duty costs.
  • VAT is dependent on your country. It ranges from 19% in Germany to 27% in Hungary. Please see the VAT table at the bottom of this page.
  • Fees – DHL charge a ‘Disbursement Fee’ to handle the goods and payments. This differs by country but is typically between 15 and 20 Euros.

** If the DHL Import Invoice includes Duty. Please do not pay. Contact us immediately. This is a mistake on the part of the customs agents in your country, which we can help you fix. We guarantee you will pay zero duty costs.
