Can I order my bike without wheels?

No, we cannot sell a bike without wheels.  It is not possible to ship, prepare or build a bike without wheels.

Can I order parts with my Frameset?

No, we cannot ship any additional components in the frame box, e.g. groupset, handlebars, etc., with a frameset.  The options we offer are a full build or a frameset.

Do you offer a discount for repeat customers?

Yes!  We are happy to offer a 5% discount for customers purchasing any additional Fairlights.  Unfortunately, this cannot be used in conjunction with a Cycle Scheme voucher. To get this discount please add a note at the checkout page.

Receiving your Fairlight

How much assembly is required when my Fairlight bike arrives?

All Fairlights are shipped in boxes specifically designed to enable the bike to be safe and protected in transit.  When your bike arrives you will need to fit the front wheel, handlebars and seatpost.  Pedals are not included but will also need to be fitted before its maiden voyage.

How will my Fairlight Frameset arrive?

All Fairlights are shipped in boxes specifically designed to enable safe and protected transportation.  When your frameset is assembled by our mechanics all threads are chased and inspected with bolts fitted where necessary.  The headset cups are installed into the frame and the crown race is fitted to the fork.  The bottom bracket shell is chased and faced ready for a bottom bracket to be fitted with ease.

What spacer setup is required on a Fairlight?

Our bikes ship with 40mm of spacers below the stem and a 5mm spacer above the stem.  This is the maximum spacer height for models with carbon forks.  There is no maximum limit on the Faran. If you require different spacing on your bike, please email us first so we can discuss your fit requirements.

**  IMPORTANT **
All bikes with carbon steerers should have the steerer tube cut no lower than the top of the stem.  With the expander bung fitted, a 5mm spacer is then used above the stem to correctly pre-load the headset bearings.  The 5mm spacer above the stem is always required.

Axles, Trailers & Child Seats

Can I use childseats and racks that clamp directly onto the tubing of my bike frame?

We advise against using any child seat or rack system that directly clamps onto the tubing of your Fairlight frame. In parts the tubing walls are thin and can be damaged by the high force exerted by the clamp and cantilevered force. These include (but are not limited to) any Hamax ‘frame mounted’ childseat or the Thule ‘Ride-along’ system. Damage caused to frames by the use of these systems would not be covered under warranty.

Rack mounted child seats; or racks in general; which mount into frame bosses can be used.

What axle do I need for my trailer?

Our axle length is 168mm for the drop bar models. The length excludes the head end of the axle but including the thread. 12mm diameter. Thread pitch 1.5mm. The following axles should work with our bikes, but will require the use of 3 to 4mm of 12mm diameter washers fitted between the outside of the dropout and the axle on the hitch connection side.

Thule – Axle Part Number 20110734
Burley – Axle Part Number 960243 (12mm x 1.5 172 – 178mm)

Other manufacturer’s part numbers are subject to change, so please check these against the manufacturer’s information before ordering.

The above is advice only. We strongly recommend getting your trailer installation reviewed by a reputable local bicycle shop.

What is the axle thread pitch?

The standard axle thread pitch is M12 x 1.5mm.  Axles can be purchased from turbo trainer manufacturers if you want to use your Fairlight with a wheel on trainer.

Mudguards/Fenders, Racks & Bikepacking Kit

Do you have any mudguard recommendations?

We recommend any of the mudguards offered by SKS.  If you want something a little more special we suggest the Portland Design Works Full Metal Fenders.

Strael 4.0

  • PDW Full Metal Fenders 37mm for 30mm tyres or narrower.
  • PDW Full Metal Fenders 45mm for 35mm tyres or narrower.  You can also go with the 45mm guards for more coverage on narrower tyres.

*For PDW Full Metal Fenders you will need to drill through the rear mudguard to mount it to the seatstay bridge or purchase an additional bridge.

For the Strael 3.0 and older fitment can be tight at the seat stay bridge. We would recommend measuring to make sure there is enough space for the mudguard to fit between the seatstays below the bridge.

Secan 3.0 and Faran 3.0

  • PDW Full Metal Fenders 45mm for 35mm tyres or narrower.
  • PDW Full Metal Fenders 55mm for tyres larger than 35mm and no larger than 45mm, will fit on 1x setups with no issues.

*For PDW Full Metal Fenders you will need to drill through the rear mudguard to mount it to the seatstay bridge or purchase an additional bridge.

As the fittings are standard any mudguards will work.  You will need to create a hole in the mudguard to fit it to the seatstay bridge.
Some mudguards require a small bit of trimming to fit in between the chainstays.

We cannot fit mudguards to bikes, either sent or collected.

What Rack do you recommend?

We would recommend anything from Tubus.  As the mounts for the rack are standard any brand will fit.

Do you have Frame measurements for Frame Bags?

Technical & General

Can I order my bike in a custom colour?

We do not offer the option to paint your Fairlight a custom colour.

Can I order my bike without decals?

We do not offer this option on any of our bicycles.

Can I order my bike unpainted / raw?

We do not offer this option on any of our bicycles.

Can I order my bike tubeless?

We do not set-up bikes tubeless, all full builds come with inner tubes pre-installed. Many tyres that we offer are tubeless ready and all wheelsets that we offer are pre-taped.

Do you sell touch up paint?

We do not sell touch up paint but it can be purchased from the links below. We recommend using the “All in One” Touch-up paint bottle.

**Please always test the colour prior to application – all of these colours are matched on a best efforts basis so there will be a slight discrepancy between your frame and the touch up paint**

Putty / Monochrome – RAL7047
Deep Grey – RAL7021
Deep Orange – RAL2001
Deep Blue – RAL5013
Flint Grey – RAL7040
Black – RAL9005
Winter Bracken – RAL8001
Woodland Green – RAL6025
Midnight Blue – RAL5001
Moss – RAL7013
Desert – RAL1019
Violet – RAL4005

There is currently no touch up paint option for the Iridescent Plum.

Do the frames have corrosion protection?

Strael 4.0 & 3.0, Secan 3.0 & 2.5, Faran 3.0 & 2.5 and Holt 2.0 frames (and forks for Faran) are phosphate dipped, then ‘ED-coated’ prior to painting; providing maximum corrosion protection.

Holt 1.0, and earlier models of Strael, Secan and Faran use a tough powder coat paint system to provide external protection. They are internally treated using a protective wax called Bilthamber Dynax S50.

What torque settings do you recommend?

Please follow this link for the recommended torques. 3rd party manufacturer’s torques (like Shimano or FSA) do get revised occasionally; if in doubt please refer to their own documentation.

What Shimano rear caliper bolt lengths are required?

For the Strael mk1, Strael 2.0, Secan mk1, Secan 2.0 and Faran 2.0 a standard M5 bolt is needed.  For the front bolt we use a bolt with a 30mm threaded section and for the rear bolt we use a 28mm threaded section.  A small drop of Loctite is always recommended for brake bolts.

For the Strael 4.0, Strael 3.0, Secan 2.5 and Faran 2.5 the standard Shimano bolts work without issue. For Shimano R9270, R8170 and R7170 the following bolts are needed.

  • Caliper fixing screw C length – 28 mm (Y8N208050) – Frame Thickness 15mm
  • Caliper fixing screw C2 length – 24 mm (Y2J708050) – Frame Thickness 15mm
  • For older Shimano groupsets you need two of the C version.
  • Caliper fixing screw C length – 28 mm (Y8N208050) – Frame Thickness 15mm

For the Secan 3.0, Faran 3.0 the standard Shimano bolts work without issue. For Shimano GRX 610 and GRX 820 the following bolts are needed.

  • Caliper fixing screw C length – 33 mm (Y8N208010) – Frame Thickness 20mm
  • Caliper fixing screw C2 length – 29 mm (Y2J708010) – Frame Thickness 20mm
  • For older Shimano groupsets you need two of the C version.
  • Caliper fixing screw C length – 33 mm (Y8N208010) – Frame Thickness 20mm
What SRAM rear caliper bolt lengths are required?

For the Strael mk1, Strael 2.0, Secan mk1, Secan 2.0 and Faran 2.0 a standard M5 bolt is needed.  For the front bolt we use a bolt with a 30mm threaded section and for the rear bolt we use a 28mm threaded section.  A small drop of Loctite is always recommended for brake bolts.

For the Strael 4.0, Strael 3.0, Secan 2.5 and Faran 2.5 (ordered before January 2025) the frame thickness is 15mm. The standard SRAM bolts will be too long.  The correct bolts are the 22mm long bolts.

The details are as follows:

  • Stainless Steel T25 22MM (2 PCS) – Flat Mount Caliper Bolts – 00.5318.005.014
  • Titanium T25 22MM (2 PCS) – Flat Mount Caliper Bolts – 00.5318.005.015

For the Secan 3.0, Faran 2.5 (ordered after January 2025) the frame thickness is 20mm. The standard SRAM bolts may be too long.  The correct bolts are the 27mm long bolts.

The details are as follows:

  • Stainless Steel T25 27MM (2 PCS) – Flat Mount Caliper Bolts – 00.5318.005.004
  • Titanium T25 27MM (2 PCS) – Flat Mount Caliper Bolts – 00.5318.005.005
Are the frames compatible with Di2 and 30mm axle crank?

Fairlight frames are not compatible with a 30mm axle and Di2 shifting.  Due to the standard BSA bottom bracket shell there is not enough spacer for a 30mm axle and Di2 wires.

What Di2 wire lengths should I use?

12 Speed Di2 – All Models

DI2 12 speed now has wireless shifters so you will only need wires for the front and rear derailleur.
1400mm – seatpost mounted battery to rear mech
750mm – seatpost mounted battery to front mech

11 Speed Di2 – Strael 1.0/2.0/3.0, Secan 1.0/2.0/2.5, Faran 1.0/2.0/2.5

The Di2 wire lengths will depend on how the system is setup and what Junction Box A has been used.
For a below stem junction box we recommend:

  • Shifter to junction box – EW-SD50 350mm x 2
  • Junction box to JC41 – EW-SD50 1000mm (61R/61T 1200mm)
  • JC41 to Battery – EW-SD50 1000mm
  • JC41 to Front mech – EW-SD50 350mm
  • JC41 to rear mech – EW-SD50 700mm
  • For a bar end junction box we recommend:
  • Bar end to shifter – EW-SD50 300mm
  • Bar end to other shifter routed internally through the bar – EW-SD50 1200mm (1000mm will work for most 38cm and 40cm bar widths)
  • Shifter to JC41 – 1400mm
  • JC41 to Battery – EW-SD50 1000mm
  • JC41 to Front mech – EW-SD50 350mm
  • JC41 to rear mech – EW-SD50 700mm

Notes:
With this bar end junction box setup the rear brake hose and Di2 wire can be heat shrunk together for tidiness.
If you want to use sprint/climbing shifters with the bar end junction box setup and Ultegra R8070, an additional JC41 may be required in the bars.
